My Svbony Experience

I have always been a bird photographer so my "weapon" of choice has always been a camera rather than binoculars. So whatever money I have available for birding gears usually goes to photography equipment. Having said that, having a pair of binoculars while birding is very useful because it helps one locate the birds. Sometime in late 2022, while looking for inexpensive but good quality bins for use of my birder guests and guides, Rommel Cruz, a friend from Puerto Princessa, said that a known bird tour operator from Davao recommended this brand. So I ordered two units, an SV40 and an SV21. I was satisfied with these two that in early 2024, I ordered three more units, all SA202. I liked this model even more. And we have been using these five units in our birding tours. Because of its low price, I expected these bins not to last very long but it is now the end of 2026 and we are still using them in the field (in Coron).

Fast forward to June 2026. I came accross a Facebook post asking for volunteers to review certain Svbony units. I submitted my desire to join the program and was fortunate enough to have been chosen. When I was asked which model I wanted to review, I immediately answered SA207 Pro. I was then informed that this model was not available to be given free but I will be given a 50% discount. Again, without knowing how much the unit cost, I said yes. A couple of days later, the confirmation email arrived with the discount voucher so I headed to Shopee to buy said item and was shocked to find out that the price was P19,000+ !!! I almost backed out but "palabra de honor" and "amor propio" won out so I bought the thing.

The package arrived a few days later and I was particularly busy that it took me a couple of days before I opened it. To say that I was blown away in an understatement. The unit arrived well packed in a nice colored box with a rugged but classy looking case with straps meant for the chest/back. Really designed for a serious birder. The item itself felt solid and expensive unlike my other Svbony bins which, while good, are obviously entry level units.

After about a week, I left for Coron taking the MV St Francis Xavier which gave me the opportunity to use it at sea, (and pretend to be the captain of the ship). Sharing some photos:

And of course, I had to take it with me to Capayas as we searched for the elusive Philippine Pitta.

And after some waiting, we were rewarded...

Verdict: The SA207 Pro is worth every peso of its price. It provides clear views comparable to the more well known brands. More importantly, I do not get dizzy while using it. All the parts of the unit feel well made and function properly. It is now a constant companion in many of my birding sorties.
