The Kasadyaan Festival in Coron is the annual celebration of St. Augustine, Coron's patron saint. As a child, I have memories of a bunch of men, their faces painted blue with Aniel dye, wearing head gear made of chicken feathers and various coconut parts, going around town playing their home made drums and flutes (tipano). They would stop in street corners, recite their Cuyonon verso (verse) and at the end, punctuate it with a hearty yell of Estra Viva!!!. Over the years, the simple fiesta celebration that I witnessed growing up has evolved into the Kasadyaan Festival, a two week long celebration involving different sports activities, field demonstrations, nightly variety shows, beauty contests, etc. One of the most awaited events is the street dancing competition. This is the evolution of the old Ati-ati tradition. Different participating groups would parade around town, perform at different points and culminate in a grand performance in the town plaza, (although last year, it was held at the reclaimed area, near Lualhati Park). The colorful costumes and elaborate performances are a feast for the eyes and a delight to photograph. I don't always get a chance to do so but last year, I had the time, so here are some of the street dancing performances in Kasadyaan 2022. Sorry for posting it a year late!
