An Arm Chair Tick (again...)

I have previously written about what an arm chair tick is (in birding parlance). Said topic is covered in this blogpost: https://chiwitchronicles.blogspot.com/2021/08/an-armchair-tick-and-hdd-lifer.html. My previous armchair ticks include the Brown-breasted Kingfisher (split from the White-throated KF), the Palawan Drongo (split from the Hair-crested Drongo), the Palawan Fairy Bluebird (split from the Asian Fairy Bluebird), Palawan Crow (split from Slender-billed), Philippine Pitta, (split from Red-bellied Pitta), and Palawan Sunbird (split from Olive-backed Sunbird).

Recently, I gained another lifer when the Large-billed Crow found in the Philippines was split and declared an endemic and renamed the Philippine Jungle Crow. Since I have also previously seen (and photographed) the Large-billed Crow in Japan, I get to add another bird to the lifelist. Yay!

A Large-billed Crow, Corvus macrorhynchos, now split and renamed Philippine Jungle Crow, Corvus philippinus. Photo taken at Subic in February 2011.

Large-billed Crow, Corvus machrorynchos, ssp japonensis. Photo taken at Sinjuku Park, Tokyo, Japan in November 2018.

It may sound trivial and unimportant to some but this fulfills the birding geek in me. Till the next lifer!
